THE SCIENCE OF BETTER HAIR CARE

Hair Science, Explained

Understand how cleansing, conditioning, proteins, pH and botanical ingredients work together in a considered hair-care routine.

START WITH THE BASICS

What Is Hair Made Of?

The visible hair strand is made primarily of keratin, a structural protein. Its outer cuticle helps protect the inner fibre. When the cuticle becomes rough or damaged through friction, heat, chemical processing or environmental exposure, hair may feel dry, look dull or become harder to manage.

Hair-care products can help cleanse the scalp, improve surface smoothness and reduce friction. They cannot permanently reverse every form of structural damage.

FOUR IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES

How Hair Care Works

01

Cleansing

Surfactants help loosen and remove oil, sweat, dirt and product residue. The right cleansing routine depends on your scalp, styling habits and how often you wash.

02

Conditioning

Conditioning agents can improve slip, reduce friction and make wet or dry hair easier to comb. This can help minimise mechanical stress during detangling.

03

Proteins

Hydrolysed proteins are used in some hair-care products to condition the hair surface and improve its feel. Results depend on the ingredient, formula and condition of the hair.

04

Moisture and Lipids

Humectants, emollients and conditioning ingredients serve different functions. Together, suitable formulations can help hair feel softer, smoother and more manageable.

FORMULATION FUNDAMENTALS

Why pH Matters

pH describes how acidic or alkaline a water-based formula is. Shampoo and conditioner formulations are commonly designed with hair and scalp use in mind. A suitable pH can support the intended performance and compatibility of a product, but pH alone does not determine whether a formula is gentle or effective.

The complete formulation matters: cleansing agents, conditioning ingredients, preservatives, fragrance and how the product is used all contribute to the finished product’s performance.

TRADITION MEETS MODERN FORMULATION

Where Ayurvedic Botanicals Fit In

Ingredients such as amla, bhringraj, shikakai, reetha, brahmi and hibiscus have a long history in traditional hair-care practices. Modern cosmetic formulation considers how botanical ingredients behave in a finished product alongside surfactants, conditioning agents and other ingredients.

A botanical ingredient’s presence does not, by itself, prove a specific result. Its effect depends on the ingredient preparation, concentration, formulation and available evidence.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Hair Science FAQs

Can shampoo repair damaged hair permanently?

Shampoo primarily cleanses. Some formulas can also provide conditioning benefits, but cosmetic products cannot permanently reverse all structural damage to the hair fibre.

Do protein products suit every hair type?

Not every formula will feel the same on every head of hair. Product choice and frequency should reflect hair condition, texture, styling practices and personal results.

Are Ayurvedic ingredients and modern cosmetic science compatible?

Yes. Botanical ingredients can be incorporated into modern cosmetic formulations. Their quality, preparation, concentration, compatibility and the finished formula all matter.

Where can I check the ingredients in an Anekanta product?

Visit the relevant product page and review its ingredient declaration. The general ingredients guide is useful for background information, but it is not a substitute for the complete ingredient list of an individual product.
